Xilinx fully programmable devices power ZTE Pre5G 3D/ Massive MIMO base stations

     Xilinx has announced that its fully programmable devices will support ZTE's pre5G 3D/ Massive MIMO base stations. Zte's massive MIMO system contains 128 antennas and uses a front area similar to the existing 8-antenna system. Zte's massive MIMO base station integrates antennas, base station units and RF in a single module, requiring only 1/3 of the installation space of traditional systems, thereby reducing operators' operating costs and total cost of ownership. The Xylinx 28nm Kintex-7 device is the core component of the solution, providing industry-leading digital front-end processing capabilities and advanced baseband algorithm implementation, further enhancing the capabilities of ZTE's high-performance vector processor SOCs.

     Dr. Jiying Xiang, Chief Technology Officer of ZTE Wireless Products, said, "The combination of our pre5G multi-user/multi-stream air division multiplexing technology and Xilinx's 7-series FPGA enabled our base station to set new records for single-carrier transmission capacity and spectral efficiency.
