Xilinx fully programmable devices power ZTE Pre5G 3D/ Massive MIMO base stations

Xilinx has announced that its fully programmable devices will support ZTE's pre5G 3D/ Massive MIMO base stations. Zte's massive MIMO system contains 128 antennas and uses a front area similar to the existing 8-antenna system. Zte's massive MIMO base station integrates antennas, base station units and RF in a single module, requiring only 1/3 of the installation space of traditional systems, thereby reducing operators' operating costs and total cost of ownership.

     Xilinx has announced that its fully programmable devices will support ZTE's pre5G 3D/ Massive MIMO base stations. Zte's massive MIMO system contains 128 antennas and uses a front area similar to the existing 8-antenna system. Zte's massive MIMO base station integrates antennas, base station units and RF in a single module, requiring only 1/3 of the installation space of traditional systems, thereby reducing operators' operating costs and total cost of ownership. The Xylinx 28nm Kintex-7 device is the core component of the solution, providing industry-leading digital front-end processing capabilities and advanced baseband algorithm implementation, further enhancing the capabilities of ZTE's high-performance vector processor SOCs.

 

     Dr. Jiying Xiang, Chief Technology Officer of ZTE Wireless Products, said, "The combination of our pre5G multi-user/multi-stream air division multiplexing technology and Xilinx's 7-series FPGA enabled our base station to set new records for single-carrier transmission capacity and spectral efficiency. Xilinx FPGas are the ideal platform to meet our pre5G system requirements, and we look forward to leveraging Xilinx's next generation UltraScale devices to further enhance our base station performance."

 

     Sunil Kar, Xilinx's vice president of wireless Communications, said: "Massive MIMO is seen as one of the key technologies to increase data throughput and capacity in 5G wireless systems. Xilinx's high-performance architecture and high-speed I/O directly address the critical requirements of these next-generation antenna systems. At the same time, Xilinx is very pleased to work with ZTE to continue to advance the development of 5G technology."
