Winbond launches new ultra-low power 64Mb 1.2V SPI NOR Flash

Huabang Electronics, a global leader in semiconductor storage solutions, today announced the launch of its new SpiFlash® product, W25Q64NE, which expands 1.2V SPI NOR Flash capacity to 64Mb for the first time. Huabong's new W25Q64NE flash memory can provide more code storage space and reduce the power consumption of the device, fully meet the memory requirements of the new generation of smart wearable devices and mobile devices.

     Winbond Electronics, a global leader in semiconductor storage solutions, announced today that it has launched a new SpiFlash® product, W25Q64NE, which expands the capacity of 1.2V SPI NOR Flash to 64Mb for the first time. Winbond's new W25Q64NE flash memory can provide more code storage space and reduce the operating power consumption of the device, fully meeting the memory requirements of the new generation of smart wearable and mobile devices.

     Winbond is the first flash memory manufacturer to introduce 1.2V SPI NOR Flash, which has an extended operating voltage range of 1.14V-1.6V and is compatible with the output voltage of a single-cell AA alkaline battery. This time, the product capacity has been increased to 64Mb, and Winbond 1.2V NOR Flash series products can meet the higher requirements of smart devices for code storage space. At present, the new W25Q64NE product has been sampled, and it also provides USON8-3x4 and WLCSP small-scale packages in line with industry standard packages.

     Generally, 99% of the total power consumption of mobile devices and wearable devices is generated in the running mode. Compared with 1.8V SpiFlash products, Winbond 1.2V SPI NOR Flash can reduce the running power consumption of the flash itself by one-third one. Therefore, using Winbond's 1.2V NOR Flash can help devices with smaller battery capacity, such as TWS earphones and fitness bracelets, to greatly extend the battery life of the product.

     Winbond said: "Battery life has become a key factor influencing consumers' purchase of new products such as TWS earphones and smart watches today, and Winbond's new W25Q64NE flash memory is ideal for manufacturers of these devices to help improve end product competition. force."

     In read mode operating at 50MHz, the 1.8V SpiFlash memory operates at 4mA and consumes 7.2mW. At 50MHz, Winbond's 1.2V SpiFlash memory's operating current is also 4mA, but the power consumption is only 4.8mW. Replacing a 1.8V product with a 1.2V SpiFlash provides an immediate 33% power savings.

     In addition to power saving, 1.2V SpiFlash simplifies system design and reduces cost. As the SoC process develops to a more advanced process, the I/O voltage of the new generation SoC is gradually decreasing, and is currently lower than 1.8V. Therefore, a level shifter is required to connect with the traditional 1.8V/3V SPI Flash. Will result in additional cost outlay and increase the complexity of the system design. With 1.2V Flash, the SoC can be directly connected to the SPI Flash without a level shifter, reducing BOM cost and PCB footprint.

     Winbond W25Q64NE is equipped with a standard SPI NOR interface with excellent performance, and the maximum data transfer rate can reach 42MB/s. The same architecture as the 1.8V/3V SPI Flash operation mode supports erasable sectors with a minimum size of 4KB.
