Vishay launches AEC-Q200 certified high force density, high resolution, small touch feedback actuator

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announces the launch of a new AEC-Q200-certified 12 V customizable touch feedback actuator, the IHPT-1411AF-ABA, for a variety of in-vehicle applications such as LCD displays, touch screens, and touch switch panels. Vishay's custom electromagnetic IHPT-1411AF-ABA features a small two-piece structure with mounting holes for easy installation and direct operation, high impact pulse and vibration transmission capabilities, and clear tactile feedback in noisy environments.

     The automotive grade IHTP-1411AF-ABA is an electromagnetic device that converts electrical energy into a touch-operated mechanical pulse or vibration signal, which is controlled by changes in input voltage amplitude and duty cycle. The touch coil assembly generates a magnetic field under DC voltage pulse excitation, which adsorbs the mounted moving magnetic core. After the power is cut off, the magnetic core will return to the position under the action of the customer spring assembly or elastic material.

     The device has a quick response time of less than 5 ms and can produce a variety of high resolution (HD) tactile effects with a maximum operating voltage of 16 V. The touch-feedback actuator operates at +105 °C, making it ideal for harsh environments. The device is suitable for vehicle dashboard, center console, touch screen of man-machine interface, and can provide tactile feedback for electronic transmission, steering wheel, seat and other on-board control systems.

     The IHPT-1411AF-ABA skeleton and core components are simple in structure and easy for designers to adjust the layout of the return spring configuration, which is integrated with the display firmware and requires no additional housing. In addition, the device's operating voltage as low as 12 V eliminates the need for additional high-voltage power supplies required by other technologies. As a result, the actuator costs up to 40% less than similar technologies such as linear resonance, linear broadband, eccentric rotation mass, and piezoelectric actuators, while providing lower component height and higher force density.

     The device can drive 0.5 kg load to 6 g acceleration under the condition of 12 V and 5 ms pulse. Comparable technology can only drive 0.1 kg to 0.2 kg of load up to this level. The driving coil inductance is 1.8mH, the typical DC resistance (DCR) is 0.95W, and the insulation voltage between the coil and the core is 150 VDC. The new actuator meets RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free, and uses 100 % dip solder standard lead terminations. Vishay can customize the IHPT-1411AF-ABA installation direction, termination type, and performance according to each design requirement.
