Vishay introduces new liquid tantalum capacitors with high capacity and high mechanical strength for aerospace systems

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announces the introduction of its new high energy liquid tantalum capacitor, the EP2, to meet the needs of aerospace applications, with industry-leading capacity in each voltage level and profile size.

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that in order to meet the needs of aerospace applications, it launched a new type of high-energy liquid tantalum capacitor - EP2. The capacity of each voltage grade and overall dimension of the device is advanced in the industry. EP2 has B and C packages, which provide radial plug-in termination and optional screw fixation. It can be used to directly replace similar devices, or as a high-capacity capacitor for equivalent mechanical packaging, reducing the number of components, saving space and reducing design costs.


     All devices adopt Vishay's mature SuperTan  Technology, the ultrahigh capacity of B package and C package devices can reach 2700 µ F~48000 µ F and 3600 µ F~72000 µ F respectively. The rated voltage of the capacitor is 25 VDC to 125 VDC. The EP2 capacity index is at the advanced level in the industry. The capacity of the C package device reaches 9000 µ F at 80 V and 58000 µ F at 35 V. These capacities are 50% and 21% higher than those of the next competitors respectively. The standard capacitance tolerance of capacitor is ± 20%, and products with a tolerance of ± 10% are provided.

 

     EP2 adopts a tantalum sealed shell to improve reliability, and is suitable for laser guidance, radar and avionics system pulse power supply and energy conservation applications. The mechanical performance of the capacitor is firm, which improves the ability to resist vibration (high frequency: 20g; random: 19.64g) and mechanical shock (50g).


     The operating temperature of the capacitor is - 55 ° C to+85 ° C. When the voltage is derated, the maximum ESR can reach+125 ° C, and the maximum ESR can be as low as 0.017 Ω at 1 kHz and+25 ° C. Capacitors have different types of tin/lead (Sn/Pb) termination and RoHS compliant 100% pure tin termination.
