Vishay has introduced an upgraded version of its high-performance infrared receiver module

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the availability of upgraded TSOP18xx, TSOP58xx and TSSP5xx series infrared (IR) receiver modules for remote control, proximity detection and light screen applications. Packaged in Minicast, the enhanced solution provides plug-play replacement for existing family devices, with 50% lower supply current, up to 12 kV ESD resistance, 2.0V to 5.5V supply voltage, 20% higher sensitivity in dark environments, and improved DC glare performance.

     Each of the Vishay Semiconductors TSOP18xx, TSOP58xx, and TSSP5xx family of devices integrates a light detector, a preamplifier circuit, and an infrared filter in a single package. Receiver modules reduce supply current over a wider range of supply voltages, extending mobile device battery life while increasing reliability in direct sunlight for a variety of outdoor applications. The upgraded infrared receiver is equipped with new IC technology developed in-house by Vishay to ensure long-term product availability to customers and reduce lead times. As an alternative to existing devices, these modules eliminate the need to redesign the PCB, contributing to cost savings.

     The TSOP18xx and TSOP58xx series devices can be used for infrared remote control of TV sets, audio, game consoles, set-top boxes (STB), household appliances, air conditioning and other applications. For the remote control function of these products, the device enhances the anti-interference capability, such as the infrared radiation of various fluorescent lamps. In addition, the module is not sensitive to supply voltage changes and ripple noise. The device carrier frequency is 30kHz to 56kHz, and six automatic gain control (AGC) versions are available for short and long burst coding.

     The TSSP5xx series fixed gain infrared receiver module has a close and object detection distance of 2 meters, and the TSAL6200 transmitter can detect a distance of up to 8 meters (TSSP580xx), which is suitable for light curtain applications. The device is sensitive to 38 kHz carrier frequency and has a peak wavelength of 940 nm, which is suitable for detecting object distances and can be used in toys, remote-controlled aircraft, robots, displays and user console object proximity detection, as well as garage door light curtain systems. At the same time, it can also be used as a reflective sensor for dryer phones, towel or soap boxes, automatic faucets, toilets, vending machine fall detection and safety doors and pet exit.
