Vishay Introduces Surface Mount Automotive Grade Four-Quadrant Silicon PIN Photodiodes

A few days ago, Vishay announced that its Optoelectronics Division has launched a new standard surface mount packaged automotive grade four-quadrant silicon PIN photodiode, the K857PH. Vishay Semiconductors K857PH has high sensitivity, only 0.1 % crosstalk and virtually no inter-segment tolerance, making it suitable for a variety of sensing and control applications in the automotive, consumer and industrial markets.

      A few days ago, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that its Optoelectronics Division has introduced a new standard surface-mount packaged automotive-grade four-quadrant silicon PIN photodiode, the K857PH. Vishay Semiconductors K857PH has high sensitivity, only 0.1 % crosstalk and virtually no inter-segment tolerance, making it suitable for a variety of sensing and control applications in the automotive, consumer and industrial markets.

      The recently released device is AEC-Q101 qualified and utilizes four monolithic PIN diodes—each with a photosensitive area of 1.6 mm²—integrated in a 4.72 mm x 4.72 mm x 0.8 mm surface-mount monolithic package (front-mounted). The side of the K857PH package is opaque, which eliminates the influence of stray light on the photodiode irradiation, and has an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. The device's optical response linearity is suitable for small-signal detection in various applications such as automotive rain/sunlight sensors, industrial automation systems, laser alignment, and virtual reality.

      The photodiode is based on homogeneous technology, with a sensitivity range of 710 nm to 1100 nm, a peak sensitivity wavelength of 950 nm, Ee = 1 mW/cm², and a segmental reverse photocurrent of 11 µA at a wavelength of 940 nm. The device has a half angle of ±60° and an operating temperature of -40 ˚C to +110 ˚C. The K857PH is RoHS and Vishay Green compliant, halogen free, can be stored in the shop for 186 hours, and has a moisture sensitivity rating of J-STD-020.
