Vishay Introduces New AEC-Q200 Qualified Hybrid Wirewound Charging Resistors

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduces AEC-Q200-qualified, industry-leading new charging resistor HRHA using hybrid winding technology and standard package size.

     The Vishay MCB HRHA operates up to +250 C and can be used as a pre-charge and discharge resistor for electric vehicle (EV), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) inverters and converters. Typically, designers must use multiple thick-film resistors to meet the high-pulse requirements of these applications. At the same size, the HRHA energy absorption capacity is ten times higher (ie, 6 kJ, 300 ms), so a single resistor can replace multiple thick film resistors, reducing the cost of the overall solution.

     The devices announced today are rated at 90 W on stainless steel and 54 W on Pamitherm. Resistors are highly accurate and stable with a 5 % tolerance, TCR temperature coefficient as low as 100 ppm/C, and a resistance range of 1 to 1 kΩ. HRHA is easy to install with 6.35 mm quick connect terminals. The device can be mounted on a heatsink and optionally has an integrated fuse.
