Vishay Introduces AEC-Q200 Certified High Force Density, High Resolution, Small Touch Feedback Actuator

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the launch of a new AEC-Q200 qualified 12 V customizable touch feedback actuator, the IHPT-1411AF-ABA, suitable for various automotive applications such as LCD displays, touch screens, and touch switch panels. Vishay's custom electromagnetic IHPT-1411AF-ABA features a small two-piece construction with mounting holes for easy installation and direct operation, high shock pulse and vibration transfer capability, and provides clear tactile feedback in noisy environments.

     The automotive-grade IHPT-1411AF-ABA is an electromagnetic device that converts electrical energy into mechanical pulses or vibration signals for touch operation, controlled by changes in the input voltage amplitude and duty cycle. The touch coil assembly generates a magnetic field under the excitation of a DC voltage pulse, and adsorbs the installed moving magnetic core. After a power failure, the magnetic core returns to its position under the action of the customer's spring assembly or elastic material.

     The device has a fast response time of less than 5 ms, can generate a variety of high-resolution (HD) haptic effects, and operates up to 16 V. This haptic feedback actuator operates up to +105 °C and is ideal for harsh environments. The devices are suitable for automotive dashboards, center consoles, HMI touchscreens, and provide haptic feedback for electronic transmissions, steering wheels, seats and other in-vehicle control systems.

     The simple structure of the IHPT-1411AF-ABA skeleton and core components allows designers to adjust the layout of the return spring configuration and is integrated into the display firmware without the need for additional housings. In addition, the device's low 12 V operating voltage eliminates the need for additional high-voltage power supplies required by other technologies. As a result, the actuator costs 40% less than comparable technologies such as linear resonance, linear broadband, eccentric rotating mass and piezoelectric actuators, while reducing component height and having higher force density.

     The device can drive a 0.5 kg load to 6 g acceleration under 12 V, 5 ms pulse conditions; comparable technologies can only drive 0.1 kg to 0.2 kg loads up to this level. The inductance of the drive coil is 1.8 mH, the typical DC resistance (DCR) is 0.95 W, and the insulation withstand voltage between the coil and the magnetic core is 150 VDC. The new actuators are RoHS and Vishay Green compliant, halogen-free, and feature 100 % solder dip standard lead terminations. Vishay can customize the IHPT-1411AF-ABA mounting orientation, termination type, and performance to suit individual design needs.
