Toshiba Introduces Low Input Power and High Operating Temperature Photorelays for Smart Meters

     Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Corporation announced the launch of two optical relays with rated voltages of 400V and 600V at the off-state output terminals - "TLP223GA" and "TLP223J". Both devices feature low input current and optimized switching characteristics in a DIP4 package.

     The new product is equipped with a high luminous efficiency LED developed by Toshiba, and the maximum trigger LED current is 2mA. This is about 33% lower than current products, thus supporting lower input power. Features that shorten the switching time (on-time, off-time) ensure faster operation: 50% [2] for the TLP223GA and 75% for the TLP223J.

     Its maximum operating temperature rating has been increased from 85°C to 110°C for outdoor installations such as smart meters. The maximum isolation voltage of 5000Vrms enables it to be used in equipment requiring high isolation performance.
