Toshiba Announces Upgraded 4TB, 6TB and 8TB Enterprise Hard Drive Products

     Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation announced the launch of the Toshiba MG08-D series of hard disk drives (HDDs) designed for a variety of business-critical applications such as email and customer resource management (CRM), business intelligence data analysis, small and medium-sized Enterprise servers, as well as data retention and compliance archiving, etc.

     Compared to its predecessor models, Toshiba designed the 7th generation air hard drive to be more energy efficient, have fewer components, and have a lower total cost of ownership. The new series is available in 4TB, 6TB and 8TB capacities, all using SATA and SAS interfaces. The 4TB1 model is available in 512e, 4Kn and 512n sector formats, while the 6TB and 8TB models are available in 512e and 4Kn sector formats, ensuring plug-and-play interoperability for applications using older 4TB drives.

The 7th generation conventional HDD utilizes traditional magnetic recording technology to provide plug-and-play versatility and compatibility with the vast majority of application and operating system environments."

     The MG08-D series offers a variety of industry-standard features, including 7200rpm performance, a 3.5-inch2 form factor, a choice of SATA 6Gbit/s or 12Gbit/s SAS interface3, and a rated workload of 550TB per year4. Compared to Toshiba's current 4-6-8TB series models, the newly launched 4TB models have the broadest benefits of the MG08 generation's technological advancements. For example, the new 4TB hard drive has a maximum sustained transfer speed of 243MiB/s, an increase of about 23% compared to the previous model 5, and the cache buffer size has doubled to 256MiB; in addition, the calculated reliability The indicator has increased from 1.4 million hours MTTF (AFR 0.63%) to 2 million hours MTTF (AFR 0.43%)6, and the no-load power consumption has also been reduced to 4.07 watts. The new 6TB and 8TB MG08-D series drives also support 2 million hours MTTF.
