The first back-magnetic GMR transmission speed and direction sensor

Allegro MicroSystems has announced the introduction of the ATS19580, the industry's first fully integrated, back-biased giant magnetoresistive (GMR) transmission speed and direction sensor. The ATS19580 achieves the highest system performance in transmission applications while reducing system size, complexity and cost, and improving system fuel economy.

     Allegro MicroSystems, a global leader in power and sensing solutions for motion control and energy saving systems, announced the introduction of the ATS19580, the industry's first fully integrated, back-biased giant magnetoresistive (GMR) transmission speed and orientation sensor. The ATS19580 achieves the highest system performance in transmission applications while reducing system size, complexity and cost, and improving system fuel economy.

 

     Peter Wells, Director of Allegro's Speed Sensors Business Unit, said: "By integrating Allegro's proprietary GMR technology and industry-leading digital processing technology on a single chip, we have set a new standard for transmission speed sensing and achieved the highest system performance. With the best vibration resistance in the industry, the ATS19580 can easily accommodate a larger inductive air gap, simplifying speed sensor integration for customers and enabling them to design safe, fuel-efficient systems."

 

     As the automotive industry continues to push for more efficient fuel consumption and CO2 reduction, Allegro is also leading the industry with the introduction of innovative and energy-efficient solutions such as the ATS19580. Compared to existing Hall solutions, the ATS19580 uses GMR technology to improve performance and extend the air gap, providing greater installation flexibility. This flexibility is key for the automotive industry, reducing system size, which in turn reduces costs for automakers and improves fuel economy.

 

     Monolithic integration not only enables the highest level of vibration resistance and dynamic air gap, as well as system performance such as accurate direction detection, but also makes it easy to integrate ics, magnets and protection components by using injection molded module packages. The Allegro advanced digital algorithms built into the ATS19580 enable flexible design and system compensation. The back magnetic IC is provided in a lead-free 3-pin single-in-line (SIP) package (suffix SN) with a tinned lead frame.

 

     The ATS19580 complements Allegro's recently introduced ATS19420 and ATS19520 fully integrated Hall-effect transmission speed sensors, as well as Allegro's Hall-effect and GMR product line without back magnetic, for a wide range of magnetic target sensing applications. Allegro will also introduce another GMR transmission speed sensor, the ATS19480, all of which provide customers with the broadest portfolio of transmission speed sensors on the market today and reflect Allegro's more than 20 years of experience and technological advances in the automotive industry. And it directly responds to the needs of today's automotive manufacturers.
