The compact and independent Bluetooth low-power wireless MCU module of u-blox complies with the Bluetooth 5.1 specification

     U-blox's NINA-B40 module is built on Nordic nRF52833 chips and as an open CPU, client applications run on the built-in Arm Cordex-M4 and FPU. The NINA-B40 module integrates flash memory and RAM, and the application runs on an embedded Bluetooth low-power stack. Bluetooth low energy services such as serial communication, GATT, beacons and mesh are supported. For location applications, NINA-B40 supports pointing functions such as the arrival and departure angles of the Bluetooth 5.1 specification. These methods determine the direction in which the signal is sent, which improves positioning accuracy compared to the received signal strength (RSSI). NINA-B40 can be used as both transmitter and receiver in direction finding applications.

     The NINA-B40 provides greater communication range or more reliable connectivity using Bluetooth 5 remote functionality. In addition, the module supports NFC and ieee802.15.4 with threading and Zigbee. A range of wired interfaces are available :UART, SPI, I(2)C, I(2)S, USB, QDEC, PDM, PWM, and ADC. The key market segments are smart cities and buildings, industrial automation, healthcare and telematics. Specific applications include smart lighting, asset tracking, indoor positioning, low-power sensors, and wireless connectivity and configurable devices.

     NINA-B406 comes with an internal PCB antenna, while NINA-B400 comes with U.F.L connectors for use with external antennas. The internal PCB antenna provides high performance and a wide range of powerful low profile solutions. The NINA-B40 series will be globally certified for use with an internal antenna or a range of external antennas. This significantly reduces the time, cost and effort required by customers to integrate Bluetooth low power into their designs.
