Texas Instruments' sensors offer design flexibility for industrial and personal electronics applications

     Texas Instruments' TMAG5273 is a low-power linear 3D Hall-effect sensor designed for a wide range of industrial and personal electronics applications. The device integrates three independent Hall-effect sensors on the X, Y, and Z axes. A precision analog signal chain and integrated 12-bit ADC digitize the measured analog magnetic field values. The I2C interface supports multiple operating VCC ranges while ensuring seamless data communication with low-voltage microcontrollers (MCUs). The device features an integrated temperature sensor that can be used for a variety of system functions, such as thermal budget checking or temperature compensation calculations for a given magnetic field.

     The TMAG5273 can be configured through the I2C interface to allow a combination of magnetic axis and temperature measurement. The device is configurable for various power options, including wake-up and sleep modes, allowing designers to optimize system power consumption according to their system-level requirements. There are multiple sensor conversion schemes and I2C read frames to help optimize throughput and accuracy. A dedicated ALERT pin acts as a system interrupt during low-power wake-up and sleep modes and can be used by the microcontroller to trigger new sensor conversions.

     The Integrated Angle Calculation Engine (CORDIC) provides full 360° angular position information for both on-axis and off-axis angle measurement topologies. Perform angle calculations using two user-selected magnetic axes. The device features magnetic gain and offset correction to mitigate the effects of mechanical error sources in the system. The TMAG5273 offers four different factory programmed I2C addresses. The device supports additional I2C addresses through modification of the user-configurable I2C address register. This component can be configured to select one of two magnetic field ranges suitable for magnet strength and component placement during system calibration. The device is stable over a wide ambient temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
