Texas Instruments introduces the industry's first 18V multichannel synchronous buck converter with a PMBus digital interface

     Texas Instruments announced the launch of a four-channel buck DC/DC converter with a PMBus/I2C digital interface for applications where space is limited, such as solid-state devices, and the need to withstand high temperatures without cooling systems, such as small cell sites and infotainment. The TPS65400 dual - or quad-output configurable DC/DC converter integrates eight power metal-oxy-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) with a minimal footprint and industry-leading efficiency of up to 95%.

     The TPS65400 includes four high-current synchronous step-down switching regulators with integrated MOSFETs. Each switching converter can provide 2A or 4A outputs and can efficiently power digital circuits such as processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPgas), application-specific integrated circuits (ASics), memory, and digital input/output. The switching frequency for such converters is independently adjustable up to 2.2MHz. The TPS65400 can be powered by a single input rail ranging from 4.5V to 18V and can support applications that operate on a 5V or 12V intermediate distribution bus.
