Texas Instruments' TPS7B86-Q1 Automotive LDO Linear Regulator

     Texas Instruments' TPS7B86-Q1 is a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator designed to interface to batteries in automotive applications. The device's extended input voltage range to 40 V allows the device to withstand expected transients in automotive systems such as load dump. With a quiescent current of 17 µA at light load, the regulator is an optimal solution for powering normally-on components such as microcontrollers (MCUs) and controller area network (CAN) transceivers in standby systems.

     The TPS7B86-Q1 has state-of-the-art transient response, allowing the output to quickly respond to load or line changes (such as during cold crank conditions). Additionally, the device features a novel architecture that minimizes output overshoot when recovering from voltage drops. During normal operation, the device has a tight ±0.85% overvoltage, overload, and overtemperature DC accuracy. The power good delay can be adjusted by external components, allowing the delay time to be configured to suit specific application systems.
