Texas Instruments Offers TPS7A13 Low Input Voltage Low Output Voltage LDO Regulator

     Texas Instruments' TPS7A13 is a small low-dropout regulator (LDO) with excellent transient response. The device delivers 300 mA with excellent AC performance (load and line transient response). The input voltage range is 0.7 V to 2.2 V, and the output range is 0.5 V to 2.05 V, with very high load, line and temperature accuracy of 1%. The main power path is through the IN pin and can be connected to a power supply that is only 50 mV above the output voltage. Electrical characteristics, including excellent output voltage tolerance, transient response, and PSRR, are suitable for input voltages 100 mV higher than output voltage with high practical efficiency.

     The regulator uses a higher externally powered VBIAS rail to support very low input voltages for powering the LDO's internal circuitry. For example, the supply voltage at the IN pin could be the output of a high-efficiency DC/DC buck regulator, and the supply voltage at the BIAS pin could be a rechargeable battery. The TPS7A13 features an active pull-down circuit that quickly discharges the output when disabled and provides a known start-up state.
