
Teledyne e2v continues to address the most challenging application scenarios with its mixed-signal technology that delivers high reliability. The company's EV12AQ600 has just been recognized as the industry's first 4-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) eligible for space deployment.
After thorough testing, the EV12AQ600 has demonstrated that it can withstand a total ionization dose (TID) of 150kRad. These results from TID and SEE prove that this device is well suited for space applications such as long-life missions or GEO satellites. In addition, the ADC rigorously passes multi-axis mechanical shock and vibration tests, plus electrostatic discharge (ESD), extreme temperature and thermal cycling test procedures. After successfully passing all of the above tests, it now meets the requirements of NASA and ESA, conforming to the strict MIL-PRF-38535 (QML-Y) and ESCC 9000 standards.
Teledyne2v's EV12AQ600 family of equipment is already used in many mission-critical applications in the military and avionics sectors, and space certification will open up new opportunities for its application. This 12-bit ADC supports 1.6GSps data sampling rate per channel, or 6.4GSps data sampling rate in a single channel with a crossover switch. Detailed studies have shown that when placed in a space environment, they do not exhibit the poor interface stability seen on devices from other ADC manufacturers. As a result, customers can be confident in their long-term operation once they deploy them in space.
In addition to the leading performance and robust stability achieved by the EV12AQ600, the ADC has certain other properties that will benefit space applications. Since the crossover switch is located after the input, the device is more versatile than other solutions. Once the ADC's hardware is in orbit, it can be easily reconfigured remotely.
The number of channels, bit rate, and dynamic range can all be changed with the included FPGA to meet new functional requirements. This built-in flexibility also facilitates re-development design, where engineers are able to follow a platform-based strategy in which the original system can then be adapted to different application standards. As a result, development times can be greatly accelerated with fewer engineering resources required. A comprehensive collection of FPGA libraries can be used to further assist project development efforts, leveraging Teledyne e2v's capabilities in the Xilinx ecosystem (XQRKU060) for space applications.
