TT Electronics' New Surface Mount Resistors Improve Reliability Using Ceramic-Based Metal-on-Foil Technology

TT Electronics introduces its Metal Foil Chip (MFC) resistors. The MFC series uses metal-on-ceramic foil technology that combines the heat dissipation properties of ceramic substrates with the surge resistance properties of metal alloy bulk resistive elements. This provides a lower level of self-heating than thick film or gold bulk resistors and better surge resistance than thick film, which makes this resistor well suited for automotive, industrial and medical applications.

     "The development of our MFC series of resistors has been driven by the explosive growth of products that need to control and monitor energy consumption, such as battery-operated portable and IoT devices," said Barry Peters, vice president of product management and engineering at TT Electronics. Addressing growing demand in this space, TT has enhanced its current sensing resistor portfolio with the debut of the MFC series, offering a wider range of sizes and values than many top competitors. "

     MFC resistors reduce PCB footprint, improve error tolerance, allow for relaxation of accuracy requirements elsewhere in the design, and ultimately improve product reliability. Available in six sizes from 0402 to 2512, the MFC series offers a resistance range of 2 to 200 milliohms with an accuracy of ±0.5% and a temperature drift of ±50ppm/°C. The MFC series is AEC-Q200 qualified and can be used in automotive DC-DC conversion, DC motor control, actuator control, power monitoring, portable device battery management systems and LED drivers.
