
Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced an ultra-small 24-bit wide-bandwidth analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that enables industry-leading signal measurement accuracy over a wider bandwidth than comparable ADCs. The ADS127L11 is a new product in TI's precision wide-bandwidth ADC family. Its package size has been reduced by 50%, enabling ultra-precision data acquisition and greatly optimizing power consumption, resolution and measurement bandwidth for various industrial system applications.
"In applications such as test and measurement equipment and portable medical devices, shrinking solution size and reducing power consumption are popular trends, while extending battery life is imperative," said Noman Akhtar, senior research analyst at Omdia. "There is a need to increase data throughput and bandwidth as quickly as possible, and reduce power consumption and size."
The ADS127L11 offers high design flexibility to optimize ADC performance and enable tailored high-performance data acquisition in a variety of industrial systems with wide bandwidth and low-latency filter options. Designers can use the wide bandwidth mode to improve AC measurement resolution and minimize high frequency noise. Compared with comparable data converters, the bandwidth can be increased by 50%, the signal-to-noise ratio is increased by 30%, and the data throughput rate is up to 400 kSPS. In low-latency mode, the ADS12711 reduces latency by 25% (up to 1,067 kSPS) and reduces temperature drift by 83.3% (50 nV/°C), enabling designers to improve DC measurement resolution for data acquisition and regulation monitoring applications, Increase data throughput and speed up response time.
The ADS127L11 consumes half the power compared to other comparable ADCs, and utilizes the device's scalable power modes to better power system designs such as portable electroencephalographs (EEGs) and power quality analyzers while meeting bandwidth requirements optimization. Power consumption as low as 3.3 mW, sampling rates as high as 50 kSPS, and improved signal resolution and battery life.
