
Texas Instruments has introduced a new line of advanced humidity sensors that not only offer industry-leading reliability and accuracy and ultra-low power consumption, but also provide built-in protection through inductive components. With the HDC3020 and HDC3020-Q1, engineers will be able to create more reliable industrial and automotive systems that can withstand potential damage from moisture and respond to changing humidity conditions whenever needed.
Moisture can affect system performance and product life in applications such as automotive, electrical and medical devices. Whether it's extending the life of products during transportation and storage, preventing car cameras from fogging, or controlling air flow and quality in buildings, all require a more reliable, safer, and more comfortable environment, which is why more and more engineers are incorporating relative humidity (RH) sensors into their systems to measure ambient humidity.
Compared to existing relative humidity sensors, the HDC3020 and HDC3020-Q1 measure relative humidity with higher accuracy and less long-term error, maintain data integrity under a variety of stress conditions, and provide an industry-first integrated correction function to cope with accuracy drift due to natural aging, environmental stress or contamination.
Improve system reliability with enhanced induction elements
The HDC3020 and HDC3020-Q1 have lower drift under extreme conditions than their counterparts, with relative humidity accuracy drifts of less than 0.21% per year and relative humidity drifts of less than 5% due to temperature and humidity stress (measured at up to 85% relative humidity and 85°C). This stable and long-lasting accuracy extends system life without the need for frequent sensor replacement or recalibration.
When exposed to stress or contaminants, the sensor also offers a second line of defense: the use of integrated drift correction technology, which can eliminate even tiny precision drifts during the initial phase of the sensor. Low-temperature bleaching is particularly important in long-life applications as it allows for better performance and higher reliability over time.
Improve system efficiency with the industry's highest precision
Both the HDC3020 and HDC3020-Q1 provide higher accuracy over the entire supply voltage range from 1.62V to 5.5V and over an extremely wide temperature and humidity range of ±1.5% relative humidity (verified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology program). This high precision allows for more precise system control, ensuring that the system only operates when necessary, thus increasing efficiency.
In addition, the HDC3020 and HDC3020-Q1 are available in a variety of pin-to-pin compatible package covers, such as detachable polyimide tape covers and IP67-grade fixed filter covers. These covers provide inlet dust and moisture protection during assembly and system operation, and help sensors maintain accuracy in contaminated environments.
Extend the life of battery-powered systems with the industry's ultra-low power humidity sensors
The HDC3020 and HDC3020-Q1 provide nanoampoule ultra-low power consumption over a wide supply voltage range of 1.62V to 5.5V, enabling low power operation in both active and sleep modes. The automatic measurement mode supports periodic humidity sensing to capture data while the rest of the system is asleep, further maintaining system battery life, and is suitable for applications such as cold chain data loggers, wirelessly connected environmental sensors (such as air quality monitors, wireless sensor nodes in smart homes or buildings), or IP network cameras.
