TE introduces plug and splice connectors for connecting solar panels

     TE Connectivity's (TE) new plug and splinter connectors help solar farms improve efficiency and profitability. As the demand for solar energy continues to grow, so does the need for more stable systems that deliver higher power and efficiency. As the size of the system increases, so does the cost of complexity, installation, operation, and maintenance. The solar market needs connections that are cost-effective, reliable, and can be installed quickly, easily, and accurately.

     With SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 DC plug and connector connectors, a pair can be installed in less than 30 seconds. Installation speeds are up to 80% faster than standard PV connectors with multiple components and crimp terminals on the market. SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 connects photovoltaic cables to on-site solar panels with extended voltage classes of 1500V TUV/IEC and UL. The design incorporates puncture connector (IDC) technology, eliminating the need to peel off the cable sheath and avoiding cable damage. This single-piece product requires fewer installation steps and no special tools, resulting in reliable product performance and reduced labor and maintenance costs.

     These new products are EC 62852 (TUV) and UL 6703 certified and are gel filled with IPx8 water resistance. It can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 24 hours without damage. The SLK 2.0 plug connector adopts SOLARLOK 1500V PV4-S interface to meet the latest solar photovoltaic requirements. It is available in two versions, male and female, suitable for SOLARLOK PV4-S and PV4-PM DC connectors. They also have a wide cross-sectional area, with one connector suitable for wires from 2.5 mm² to 6 mm² (10 to 14 AWG).

     SLK 2.0 connectors are offered as single-piece connectors, reducing the risk of incomplete connectors. This speeds up the termination process without having to deal with any loose parts or use any custom tools. It is especially easy to service, extending cables quickly and easily, and providing solutions for cables that have been damaged by animals or have mechanical insulation problems. SLK 2.0 connectors also feature dovetail construction for easy side-by-side stacking.
