TDK introduces high-performance Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN-Bluetooth) filters for smartphones

     TDK Corporation has released a new EPCOS Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN-Bluetooth) filter. The filter performs well and is sized for mobile phones, wireless local area networks, Bluetooth and satellite navigation services to coexist on the same antenna. Based on the advanced second generation BAW technology (BAW2), the new Epcos B8831 filter has a better quality factor and significantly reduced insertion loss of only 1.1dB compared to the current model. The B8831 package size is extremely small, only 1.1mm x 0.9mm, and its 1109 is an ultra-thin package with a height of only 0.4mm.

     Infinite spectrum is a finite resource and the number of communications services continues to grow. In particular, the wireless Lans and Bluetooth bands between 2400 MHz and 2483 MHz are less than 20MHz apart from the new bands 7, 40 and 41 currently used for LTE mobile phone services. Thanks to the new filter's low insertion loss and high out-of-band rejection, the B8831 prevents mutual interference between wireless LAN/Bluetooth and adjacent high-band cell phone signals, helping to reduce smartphone power consumption without affecting its performance.
