TDK introduces CeraLink - a compact solution for converters

     TDK Group has announced the new generation of EPCOS CeraLink, which provides an extremely compact solution for buffering and DC links for fast switching converters based on SiC- and GaN- semiconductors. These new capacitors are based on the ceramic material PLZT(lead lanthanum zirconate titanate). Compared with traditional ceramic capacitors, CeraLink can achieve its maximum capacitance value when the application voltage is applied, and the characteristic that the capacitance increases with the voltage provides better control of the ripple voltage.

     The smallest of the CeraLink series is the SMD low profile model, measuring just 4.25 mm x 7.85 mm x 10.84 mm, with a rated voltage of 500 V DC and a capacitance of 1μF. There is also a pinch-crimped model available with a capacitance of 20-μF, a rated voltage of 500 V DC, and a size of 33.00mm x 22.00mm x 11.50mm. Both models have extremely low ESL values of less than 3.5nH. The series of capacitors are professionally designed to operate in a temperature range of -40 to +125 ° C, and can withstand high temperatures up to 150 ° C for short periods of time.

     Due to their compact size, the CeraLink SMD low profile capacitors have the advantage of being embedded into IGBT modules, minimizing the inductance value, so that there is no significant overvoltage when the semiconductor device is turned on and off.
