Stmicroelectronics single-chip tri-frequency satellite navigation receiver improves the positioning accuracy of automobiles

     STMicroelectronics  has launched the world's first automotive satellite navigation chip capable of providing high-quality location data for advanced driving systems. STA8135GA is available in a 7mm x 11mm x 1.2mm QFN package

     As a new member of stmicroelectronics's Teseo V family of products, STA8135GA is the world's first GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver chip with on-chip integration of a three-frequency position measurement engine, in addition to standard multi-frequency position-speed-time (PVT) and dead reckoning capabilities.

     Tri-frequency position measurements have historically been used in professional-grade equipment that requires millimeter-level positioning accuracy with little corrective data, such as surveying and mapping instruments and fine farming equipment. Previously, trisoft solutions only had chipsets or modules on the market, which were larger and more expensive than ST's monolithic solutions. Among the technologies that effectively capture and track multiple navigation constellation satellites simultaneously, tri-band receivers capture and track the largest number of satellites, enabling superior positioning performance in harsh environments, such as maintaining positioning accuracy in urban canyons and tree cover.

     Bringing the triple-band receiver to the automotive market in a compact, easy-to-integrate package, STA8135GA helps driver assistance systems make accurate judgments about the road ahead. The multi-constellation receiver is responsible for providing raw position information to the master control system, while the master controller runs precise positioning algorithms, such as PPP/RTK (Precise point positioning/real-time motion). In addition, STA8135GA can enhance the performance of other applications, including in-vehicle navigation systems, telematics devices, smart antennas and V2X communication systems, ship navigation systems, unmanned aerial vehicles and other vehicles.
