Stmicro launches third generation silicon carbide products to drive the future development of electric vehicles and industrial applications

     STMicroelectronics launched the third generation STPOWER Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET transistor to promote its cutting-edge application in power equipment of electric vehicle power system, as well as in other scenarios where high power density, high energy efficiency and high reliability are important goals.

     As the leader of SiC power MOSFET market, STF Semiconductor integrates advanced design technology to further tap the energy saving potential of SiC and continue to promote the reform of electric vehicle and industrial market. With the accelerated development of the electric vehicle market, many vehicle manufacturers and supporting suppliers are using 800V drive systems to speed up charging and help reduce the weight of electric vehicles. The new 800V system can help vehicle manufacturers produce vehicles with longer mileage. The new generation SiC devices of STC have been specially designed and optimized for these high-end automotive applications, including electric vehicle power motor inverter, on-board charger, DC/DC converter and electronic air conditioning compressor. The new generation of products is also suitable for industrial applications and can improve the energy efficiency of drive motors, renewable energy converters and energy storage systems, telecommunications power supplies, data center power supplies and other applications.

     At present, STC has completed the certification of relevant standards for the third generation SiC technology platform, and most products derived from this technology platform are expected to reach commercial maturity by the end of 2021. Devices with a nominal voltage of 650V, 750V to 1200V will be put on the market, providing more options for designers to research and develop various applications from the mains power supply to the power supply of high-voltage batteries and chargers for electric vehicles. The first products on the market are 650V SCT040H65G3AG and 750V SCT160N75G3D8AG.
