Spansion introduces HyperRAM memory

Spansion Corporation announced the launch of the first RAM product with HyperBus interface. As a companion device to HyperFlash, Spansion HyperRAM memory enables a simple and cost-effective SoC and microcontroller (MCU) solution that connects flash and RAM through the same 12-pin HyperBus interface.

     Spansion Corporation announced the launch of the first RAM product with HyperBus interface. As a companion device to HyperFlash, Spansion HyperRAM memory enables a simple and cost-effective SoC and microcontroller (MCU) solution that connects flash and RAM through the same 12-pin HyperBus interface. With a read throughput of up to 333MB/s, HyperBus devices enable fast boot, graphical display, and real-time XIP applications.

 

     Jackson Huang, vice president of product Marketing and Ecosystem at Spansion, said: "The HyperBus interface is gaining momentum and many chip vendors have adopted this high-performance solution. The introduction of HyperRAM memory is an inevitable result of the development of HyperBus interfaces, and is also a perfect companion product to HyperFlash. HyperRAM memory is ideal for SOCs with limited RAM, providing a scalable solution that extends fast read and write operations outward for fast high-resolution graphics in the early boot phase, with a wide range of applications in automotive, industrial and iot. In addition, it reduces the number of pins needed to support standard DRAM, thereby reducing the complexity and cost of the PCB."

 

     Spansion HyperRAM memory runs at up to 166MHz in DDR mode with a random initial access time of only 36ns. The faster read speed means that graphics with lower compression and higher resolution can be read and displayed more clearly. The combination of HyperFlash and HyperRAM simplifies board design and software development, resulting in faster time-to-market. It can be widely used in: automotive dashboards, infotainment systems, navigation systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), digital cameras, projectors, factory automation, medical devices, home automation and appliances, handheld devices and other iot devices.
