Silicon Motion introduces a new external portable SSD single-chip controller

     Silicon Motion has introduced the new SM2320 single-chip high-performance, low-power and cost-effective external portable SSD solution. The new SM2320 controller solution is designed to meet the high performance needs of game console users and the low power needs of laptop users through the integration of hardware, firmware and secure data protection. As NAND memory enables high performance, low power consumption, reliability and portability of storage devices, the global market for portable data storage devices is continuing to grow. Kingston Technology has designed the SM2320 into its new XS2000 external portable SSD, and other customers include module vendors and NAND flash suppliers.

     Silicon Motion's unique SM2320 External portable SSD controller solution features a single-chip USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, advanced SSD controller architecture, and four NAND channels to deliver continuous read/write speeds of up to 2,100/2,000 per second. Without the use of USB bridge chips required in other traditional designs, the SM2320 solution reduces material (BOM) costs and power consumption. The SM2320 controller solution features Silicon Motion's unique NANDXtend ECC technology for end-to-end data path protection and supports the latest generation 3D TLC and QLC NAND, which can support up to 4TB of capacity. In addition, the SM2320 controller solution uses a 256-bit AES encryption engine, as well as full compliance with the Opal specification developed by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) in the United States and fingerprint security support, enabling the highest level of data security.
