Silanna Semiconductor offers a family of DC-DC converters that offer the highest efficiency and power density

     Silanna Semiconductor, a global leader in power density technology, announced the launch of its latest series of wide-voltage, high-frequency point-of-load converters for USB-PD applications. Silanna Semiconductor is always focused on solving the ultimate power management challenge and achieving customer satisfaction through best-in-class power density and efficiency performance and unprecedented Bill of Materials (BoM) savings.

     The SZPL3102A/3103A series of two DC-DC converters (step-down regulators) operate at up to 2MHz, enabling industry-leading wide input and wide output range converters and supporting up to 24VDC inputs in a compact 3mm X 3mm QFN package.

     Tim Wilhelm, Director of Marketing at Silanna Semiconductor, explains: "The higher switching frequency means that a smaller volume and lower cost output filter can be used, and customers who have tried the sample are very satisfied that the SZPL3102/3103 is able to achieve breakthrough efficiency with minimal size and weight. Our support tools are able to give customers greater flexibility and confidence to help quickly improve performance and efficiency, ultimately increasing the power density of the design with only 12% of the volume of low-frequency competing solutions. The SZPL3102/3103 significantly reduces BOM costs and shortens the design cycle and time to market."

     The SZPL3102A and SZPL3103A have unique features that optimize their performance in USB port power applications. Very low operating power consumption enables very low no-load power, which is an important indicator for regulatory certification. In addition, the SZPL3102A includes an instantaneous internal feedback path that allows for clean and controlled startup operations until the external USB-PD controller can bias itself and take over control of the output voltage.

     Silanna combines the flexibility of internal and external resistance dividers to facilitate custom design support for customers. The SZPL3102 includes an instantaneous internal FB resistance divider that gives some PD controllers time to power up and control smoothly. The SZPL3103 allows for independent operation using an external FB resistor divider and collaboration with other USB port controllers using an external divider network.
