SiTime Introduces Programmable MEMS Resonator XCalibur for Better Performance and Reliability

SiTime Corporation has introduced the XCalibur™ Active resonator. This innovative product line uses programmable MEMS technology to address supply chain constraints and provide a direct alternative to quartz crystal resonators. In addition, XCalibur active resonators provide improved performance and reliability while reducing customer product development times by nearly two months in automotive and industrial applications.

     SiTime, the world's leading manufacturer of MEMS oscillators, has introduced the XCalibur™ active resonator designed to replace 4-pin SMD quartz crystal resonators in demanding applications such as automotive and industrial equipment.

     SiTime Corporation introduced the XCalibur™ active resonator. This innovative product family uses programmable MEMS technology to address supply chain constraints, providing a drop-in replacement for quartz crystal resonators. In addition, XCalibur active resonators provide better performance and reliability while reducing customers' product development time by nearly two months in automotive, industrial applications.

In addition , Quartz crystal resonators are not friendly to customer applications due to design challenges such as requiring additional testing and development that delay customer projects. SiTime addresses these challenges by providing a more reliable, flexible, and easier-to-implement alternative."

     Quartz crystal resonators have well-known disadvantages, such as susceptibility to strong electromagnetic interference (EMI), the need for negative resistance testing in every design and layout cycle, and the need to adjust every frequency. With XCalibur active resonators, customers no longer experience EMI or start-up issues. They no longer need to send the board to the crystal resonator supplier for negative resistance testing. Additionally, customers can implement new frequencies in the same design without revalidating parts. All these benefits enable customers to get new products to market faster.

     SiTime's new XCalibur active resonators offer 10 times higher reliability than quartz crystal resonators and are ideal for automotive and industrial applications that require ruggedness and long life in harsh environments. The many advantages of this MEMS resonator also facilitate the expansion of its applications into communications and networking, consumer electronics, mobile and IoT, and aerospace and defense applications.
