Sensirion introduces a new generation of flow sensors for respiratory monitoring

     Sensirion has introduced three new flow sensors for ventilator design and other respiratory applications. These sensors draw on extensive experience in the design of ventilators during the Covid-19 pandemic.

     The SFM3xxx series of new generation flow sensors for inspiratory applications under ambient pressure integrates sensor elements, signal processing, digital calibration and other functions on a single chip using CMOSens patented technology, and these sensors draw on extensive experience in the design of ventilators during the Covid-19 pandemic.

     The SFM3003 measures a flow range of -150~300 L/min or a larger flow range is optional, which can support the measurement of a larger inspiratory flow on a medical ventilator. The SFM3013 withstands overpressure (gauge pressure up to 1 bar) and is calibrated for helium-oxygen mixtures; The SFM3119 is a new generation compact digital flow sensor based on the SFM3100.

     Compared to the previous SFM3019, the SFM3003 offers a wider flow measurement range and better technical parameters, providing excellent accuracy, reliability and long-term stability without the need for recalibration. The SFM3003 offers an easily integrated digital I2C interface output with internal linearization and temperature compensation. In addition, the SFM3003 flow sensor features ultra-low pressure drop, ultra-fast response time and an ideal signal-to-noise ratio. Part of the SFM3xxx platform, the SFM3003 and its variant SFM3013 are versatile sensor solutions for a wide range of high-volume applications where cost-effectiveness is important.

     Compared with the previous SFM3100, the SFM3119 has a digital I2C output and better technical parameters, with high accuracy and speed, and can measure the flow rate of air, oxygen and gas mixtures in the flow range of -10 to 240slm L/min. The sensor signal is internally linearized and temperature compensated, in addition to having a low pressure drop. The SFM3119 is particularly suitable for inspiratory flow measurement in applications such as ventilators or anesthesia machines, and is also ideal for accurate measurement of oxygen and air mixtures.
