STMicroelectronics announces new STM32G0 microcontroller, adds USB-C full-speed dual-mode port, CAN FD interface and larger memory

     The STMicroelectronics STM32G0* family of Arm Cortex®-M0+ microcontrollers (MCUs) adds several additions and more new features, such as dual-region flash memory, CAN FD interface and crystal-less USB full-speed data/host support. For budget-conscious applications, the new STM32G050 value line, STM32G051 and STM32G061 mainstream product lines add rich analog functions and up to 18KB of RAM memory, as well as up to 48-pin and competitively priced packages.

     In addition, the STM32G0B0 value line, the STM32G0B1 and STM32G0C1 mainstream product lines bring new features to the STM32G0, all three product lines integrate a USB 2.0 device/host controller and dual-zone flash memory, while the STM32G0B1 and STM32G0C1 also add FDCAN peripheral from STMicroelectronics.

     With the addition of new products integrating a crystal-less USB2.0 full-speed master-slave dual-mode data interface and a USB-C power supply controller, the STM32G0 series enables customers to extend the interoperability of new USB-C devices and develop innovative applications with dual-mode capabilities. As USB dual mode is about to replace USB On-The-Go (OTG), the STM32G0 can easily switch roles between the device and the host, quickly switching between sending and receiving power with a simple USB power delivery command. The FDCAN module provides two CAN 2.0 interfaces and supports CAN FD technology, helping to integrate innovative functions in industrial systems and automotive diagnostic systems.

     For application development, the NUCLEO-G0B1RE development board and STM32G0C1E-EV evaluation board are now available to speed up the development of new projects, and the STM32CubeG0 software package provides software such as hardware abstraction layer (HAL), low-level (LL) API and middleware. With the addition of these new products and technical features, the STM32G0 series now covers 8 - 100-pin packages, 16 - 512 KB on-chip flash memory capacity, and up to 144 KB high-capacity program data RAM. Flexible and variable operating modes and static modes ensure low power consumption and a maximum processing frequency of 64MHz. The high-precision internal clock signal is very stable over the entire operating temperature range, and the resolution of the high-precision timer can be set to twice the processing frequency of the CPU. The STM32G0 MCUs feature high noise immunity and are rated for a wide operating temperature range up to 125°C.

     Cybersecurity features bring advanced data security protection to consumer, appliance and industrial applications, including Secure Boot and Firmware Update (SB/SFU), Proprietary Code Readout Protection (PCROP) to protect vendor intellectual property, and task assist Partitioned Memory Protection Unit (MPU), and also introduced product models with AES-256 hardware encryption accelerated processors.
