STMicroelectronics' ToF sensors provide high-accuracy distance measurement from 1 mm to 1200 mm

     STMicroelectronics' VL53L4CD STMicroelectronics VL53L4CD Time-of-Flight High Accuracy Proximity Sensor Picture is designed for proximity and short distance measurement, providing very accurate distance measurements from 1 mm to 1200 mm. A new generation of laser transmitters with 18° FoV (field of view) improves performance in ambient light and ranging speeds up to 100 Hz.

     Due to the autonomous mode with programmable distance threshold, the VL53L4CD has very low power consumption, making it ideal for use in battery powered devices. Its fully embedded on-chip processing helps reduce design complexity and BOM cost, allowing the use of less powerful and less expensive microcontrollers. Like all ST FlightSense technology-based ToF sensors, the VL53L4CD records absolute distance measurements regardless of target color and reflectivity.

     The VL53L4CD is housed in a miniature, reflowable package with an integrated SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diode) array for excellent performance in a wide range of ambient light conditions and in a variety of cover glass materials.

     All ST's ToF sensors integrate a VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser). It emits completely invisible 940 nm infrared light and is completely eye safe (Class 1 certification).
