STMicroelectronics Launches the PowerGaN Series of Gallium Nitride Power Semiconductors

     STMicroelectronics, a global leader in semiconductors serving multiple electronic applications, has introduced a new family of gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors. This family of products is part of ST's STPOWER portfolio and can significantly reduce the power consumption and size of a wide range of electronic products. Target applications for this series include built-in power supplies for consumer electronics, such as chargers, external power adapters for PCs, LED lighting drivers, TVs and other home appliances. The global production of built-in power supplies in consumer electronics is large, and if energy efficiency is improved, CO2 emissions can be drastically reduced. In higher power applications, ST's PowerGaN devices are also suitable for telecom power supplies, industrial drive motors, solar inverters, electric vehicles and their charging facilities.
