     With the increasing number of high-density ECU electronic control units in vehicles, such as ADAS advanced driver assistance systems, autonomous  driving controllers and automotive gateways, the demand for highly miniaturized high-performance protection components is increasing, and ST's new TVS products with a package area of 1.1mm x 1.0mm can meet the high miniaturization and high performance needs. Compared to traditional SOT23-3L and SOT323-3L packaged TVS, the new product can save 75% or more PCB board area.

 

     The ESDCAN03-2BM3Y offers excellent transient protection with a minimum clamping voltage of 33V(8/20µs at 1A) and 37V(transmission line pulse (TLP) at 16A). The device has also passed the ISO 16750-2 automotive battery bonding and battery polarity reversal tests, and is extremely robust to withstand the impact of 15kV ESD contact discharge (ISO 10605), rated at 3.3A peak pulse current, and can handle strong surge current.

 

     In addition to CAN and CAN-FD buses, line capacitors of only 3.3pF enable TVS to protect high-speed and high data rate buses, such as FlexRay™ and USB. In addition, such a small capacitor also simplifies PCB design, providing additional margin when designing signal line layouts.

 

     The 175°C maximum junction temperature rating allows the new product to be deployed in all parts of the vehicle, from the compartment to the engine compartment in the harsh operating environment. The ESDCAN03-2BM3Y has an extremely low leakage current, only 50nA at 24V, which minimizes power consumption when the vehicle is turned off, helping to protect battery power and maximize the range of electric vehicles.
