STMicroelectronics Introduces NFC Type 2 Tag IC

     STMicroelectronics' ST25TN512 and ST25TN01K NFC Forum Type 2 tag ICs bring higher cost performance to applications such as merchant-consumer interaction, product information sharing, and brand protection. ST25TN512/01K NFC tag IC is also suitable for smart city and access control management, supporting a variety of user protection and privacy mechanisms, including a 7-digit unique chip identification code, TruST25 digital signature, NFC Forum T2T block level (Block) permanent write protection, And a configurable Kill mode that permanently closes the tag.

     ST25TN512 and ST25TN01K are NFC Forum Type 2 certified, adopt the ISO 14443 contactless smart card standard, and support NFC mobile phones or dedicated short-range card readers. Embedded memory contains up to 208 bytes (1664 bits) of user-specific memory.

     Tags that support NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) messages can trigger native actions on smartphones without the need for a dedicated app, such as opening a web browser or starting Bluetooth pairing. The Enhanced NDEF (ANDEF) format also supports reading dynamic information, such as custom messages and unique Tap codes, without explicitly updating the EEPROM.

     The ST25TN512/01K NFC tag IC's manufacturing process is a newly developed technology within STMicroelectronics, which leads the industry in technology and can bring better performance to products. There is a 50pF internal tuning capacitor inside the tag, this capacitance value is widely used in the market, allowing inlay card integrators to plug and play. The tag harvests the power it needs to operate from the electromagnetic field of the 13.56MHz RF transmitter, so only one more antenna is required for the complete system design. Other advantages include a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and long data retention times. These ICs are available as diced wafers or wafers with solder balls mounted, or in DFN5 packages for easy integration.
