STMicroelectronics Configurable gauge low voltage drop regulators provide diagnostic functions required for functional safety

     STMicroelectronics L99VR01 AEC-Q100 certified low voltage drop linear regulators with eight optional fixed output voltages, functional safety diagnostics, and excellent overheat protection help simplify system design, facilitate inventory management, and are suitable for a variety of automotive applications.

     The regulator has a maximum output current of 200mA and is capable of driving loads such as body control modules, junction boxes, dashboards, sunroof controllers, keyless entry controllers and sensors. The output voltage can be set to 0.8V, 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 2.8V, 2.8V, 3.3V or 5V through the three external chip selection pins, and the output voltage accuracy is better than the external voltage divider, within the range of ±2% of the nominal voltage.

     At present, there are two types of this product. The L99VR01S comes in a standard SO-8 package with enable and reset pins, as well as safety features such as fast output discharge, undervoltage lock (UVLO), thermal shutdown, and short circuit protection, with static current down to 1μA when disabled, and operating temperature range -40°C to 150°C.

     The L99VR01J is packaged in a PowerSSO-12 package, which adds short-circuit current limiting Settings, high temperature warning, and output overvoltage status indication over the previous model, and includes a programmable watchdog to verify that the master microcontroller is operating properly. The L99VR01J has a wider operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 175°C.

     By integrating output overvoltage monitoring on the chip, the new regulator provides continuous load protection. This diagnostic function simplifies the design of functional safety-related applications, helps users meet the requirements of ISO 26262 ASIL functional safety standards, and provides the appropriate supporting documentation if required.

     The input voltage range of the two products is 2.15V to 28V, which can be directly connected to the car battery voltage VBAT, or connected behind the regulated power supply to adjust the output voltage of the regulated power supply.
