ST Semiconductor Launches Single Channel Load Switch for High Starting Current Applications

     ST Semiconductor released IPS1025H and IPS1025H-32 single channel programmable high side switches. These two switches have built-in undervoltage protection, overvoltage protection, overload protection and overheating protection functions, which can intelligently drive capacitive, resistive or inductive loads with high starting current.

     The difference between IPS1025H and IPS1025H-32 is the internal programmable current limiting size. The current limiting value of IPS1025H is 2.5A, while that of IPS1025H-32 is 5.7A. In addition to the main current limiting, each switch has a user programmable auxiliary current limiting function, which is used to handle capacitive loads with large initial starting current. The current limiting value and duration are set by external resistance and capacitance.

     These two devices are compact in size, and support 8V to 60V wide voltage power supply. The maximum withstand voltage of input pin is 65V, and they can work reliably in industrial applications. Typical uses of IPS1025H include driving loads controlled by PLC modules, and designing plant automation equipment such as I/O peripherals and CNC machines. The maximum current limiting value of IPS1025H-32 is higher, which is very suitable for driving one-way motors of vending machines and other equipment.

     Because the on resistance Rds (on) is very low (≤ 25 m Ω at TJ=125 ° C), these two highly integrated MOSFET switches have high energy efficiency and low heat dissipation power. The single pulse avalanche energy is greater than 1J at 2A, which improves the reliability when handling inductive loads. The active clamping circuit integrated on the chip has the function of fast demagnetization.

     The newly launched programmable switch of STC has a comprehensive protection and diagnosis function, which can improve the security and reliability of the chip by dealing with events such as undervoltage, overvoltage, overload, short circuit, grounding or power rail disconnection. The switch uses separate fault signals to indicate overload and junction overheating events, and an enclosure overheating protection temperature sensor is added. These switches comply with the ESD, fast transient and surge immunity specifications of IEC 61000-4-2 ESD, IEC 61000-4-4 and IEC 61000-4-5.
