
SMART Modular Technology a global leader in professional memory and storage solutions, announced the launch of its new family of DDR5 memory modules, supporting the industry's transition to new higher-performance, more efficient memory technologies. With the rapid growth of data creation, DDR5 storage devices need to have greater memory bandwidth and higher performance to be able to process data in various application areas including HPC (high performance computing), AI and edge computing.
DDR5 technology transmits data at a rate of 4.8 to 6.4Gbps, and the overall performance is twice that of DDR4. At the same time, by configuring a 12V power management IC and 1.1 I/O voltage on the DIMM, it saves more power than DDR4. Another very important aspect is the dual-channel DIMM topology of DDR5, which enables higher communication efficiency, making it ideal for business areas with growing data volumes such as servers, cloud computing, and enterprise networking applications.

DDR5 improves performance by doubling the burst length of the original DDR4 to BL16 and increasing the number of banks from 16 to 32. At the same time, in order to increase efficiency and reliability, DDR5 DIMMs have two completely independent 40-bit sub-channels on the same module, and the maximum single chip density can reach 64Gb, which can greatly increase the storage capacity compared with DDR4 modules.
The DDR5 module product series initially planned by SMART Modular includes RDIMMs, UDIMMs and SODIMMs ranging from 16GB to 64GB.
SMART Modular actively participates in JEDEC (Solid State Technology Association) and supports the DDR5 module specification development process. As in the past DRAM technology transition stage, SMART Modular will provide OEM manufacturers with technical support and guidance in the early stage to help them smoothly import DDR5.
