Renesas' Precision, High Efficiency 3-Phase MOSFET Driver Simplifies BLDC Motor Design

     Renesas' RAA227063 is a high-accuracy, high-efficiency smart three-phase MOSFET driver that simplifies BLDC motor design by driving various motor configurations and control algorithms without hardware changes. It can be easily paired with any MCU, so users can expand the MCU according to their application needs. Integrated analog power components save board space, reduce BOM cost, and are easy to adjust.

     The RAA227063 is the first device to include a self-calibrating dead time generator and slew rate control to improve overall power efficiency. It integrates three half-bridge smart gate drivers to drive up to three N-channel MOSFET bridges and supports bridge voltages from 4.5 V to 60 V. Each gate driver supports up to 1 A source and 2 A peak sink drive current with programmable drive strength control. Adjustable and adaptive dead time ensures robustness and flexibility.

     This smart three-phase gate driver is designed to complement general-purpose MCUs from Renesas and other vendors, as well as motor-control-specific MCUs such as the RA6T2. It reduces the complexity of inverter design by integrating all analog components in one device. With integrated gain amplifiers and sample-and-hold functionality, designers can use ADCs for rotor detection in sensorless motor drive applications.
