
Renesas Electronics Group, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, announced the launch of the RA6T2 MCU product group, which features rich peripheral functions and hardware accelerators designed for motor control and is ideal for home appliances, smart homes, industrial and building automation, and inverter control. The latest motor control design provides an excellent combination of performance, functionality and cost-effectiveness.
Based on the 240MHz Arm Cortex-M33 core, the new RA6T2 32-bit MCU features peripherals optimized for high performance and precision motor control to increase performance while reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs. For example, two independent ADC units realize high-speed conversion with a maximum speed of 0.16μs, including simultaneous sample and hold function of three channels to detect the three-phase current of the motor. The product also incorporates an amplifier whose gain can be set according to the input voltage range, and incorporates external analog components such as a comparator that detects abnormal voltage input and overcurrent. In addition, an adjustable PWM timer makes porting existing algorithms easier. The product also cooperates with other analog functions to provide a PWM output shutdown safety function under abnormal conditions. With these features, the RA6T2 single chip can control up to two brushless DC (BLDC) motors simultaneously.
The embedded hardware accelerator includes a trigonometric function unit (TFU) and an infinite impulse response (IIR) filter. Among them, the TFU can perform high-speed calculations without looking up the table, thereby effectively utilizing the ROM. The IIR filter provides a coefficient setting method, which can simplify the transplantation of existing algorithms.
