     Renesas Electronics Introduces New Programmable Smart Gate Drivers for BLDC Motor Applications with Multiple Drive Configurations and Integrated Analog Power Devices to Save BOM Cost and Board Space, the RAA227063 can be paired with a variety of MCUs for efficient and flexible motor control in a smaller form factor; the new successful portfolio showcases the product's excellent combination with Renesas' new RA6T2 MCU

     Renesas announced the RAA227063, a smart gate driver IC for brushless DC (BLDC) motor applications. The product can be programmed via the SPI interface to support motors with rotor position sensors and sensorless applications. It provides programmable gate drive voltages that support N-channel MOSFETs typically used in motor inverter designs, as well as GaN FETs that require high power density. The RAA227063 has excellent scalability to support a variety of MCUs including many Renesas products.

     In addition to its unique flexibility, the RAA227063 three-phase FET driver is highly integrated, integrating a 500mA buck-boost converter to power low-voltage logic directly from the battery pack, comparable to traditional LDOs (~40% power efficiency) than has better power efficiency (up to 90%). The product also includes a 200mA LDO regulator to power the MCU and other analog peripherals. Three integrated current sense amplifiers with programmable gains enable easy programming for multiple shunt configurations. The excellent level of integration achieved by the product simplifies design, reduces overall BOM cost, and reduces required board space by more than 30%.
