Renesas Electronics Introduces Industry's Highest Performance 80V Bidirectional Buck-Boost and Two-Phase Buck DC/DC Controllers

     Renesas Electronics Group announced a pair of innovative 80V DC DC/DC controllers that provide the extra voltage headroom needed to reliably power data center servers, 48V communications, and industrial equipment.

     The ISL81801 buck-boost controller acts like an "on-chip uninterruptible power supply UPS" and performs constant voltage and constant current mode control to regulate bidirectional current flow (forward or reverse). This innovative design enables the use of a single controller to charge the battery or supercapacitor and power the load. Combining the industry's highest 80V buck-boost switching frequency (600kHz) with the smallest package (5mmx5mm), the ISL81801 enables designers to create ultra-compact, high-density power solutions. The wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 80V is ideal for many common applications, including 48V motor drives, 5G communication base stations, industrial battery backup energy storage systems, and solar powered systems.

     The ISL81802 is a single-chip 80V two-phase synchronous buck controller with an integrated driver. It is also the industry's only 80V two-phase buck controller with a 1MHz switching frequency. It can use small inductors to improve power density. For higher power applications, multiple ISL81802s can be redundantly paralleled or interleaved in parallel with best-in-class transient response. The ISL81802 can generate two independent outputs or one high-current output, enabling creative power engineers to gain great flexibility and IP multiplexing between platforms. Additionally, the ability to control in either constant voltage or constant current mode opens up a wide range of end-user applications such as LED drivers, data centers, and more.
