ROHM Introduces New Ultra-Efficient Foldable Battery Management System Evaluation Board

      Rohm has launched a new evaluation board to demonstrate an ultra-efficient battery management system for thin, small IoT devices. With the REFLVBMS001-EVK-001 board, engineers can evaluate Rohm's Nano Energy ultra-low current power ICs and NGK Insulators' EnerCera Li-Ion rechargeable batteries. According to Rohm, the battery management system extends application standby time by 60 times compared to existing solutions.

     The 56×32 mm evaluation board is equipped with three ICs: a Nano Energy step-down DC/DC converter (BD70522GUL) with only 180 nA quiescent current, a Nano Energy reset IC (BD5230NVX-2C) for detecting abnormal voltage, And a linear battery charger (BD7163QWZ) for low voltage batteries. It also houses the EnerCera Pouch EC382794P-C, an ultra-thin bendable rechargeable battery with a thickness of 0.45mm and a capacity of 27mAh. All mounted components are less than 0.60mm thick (1.60mm with circuit board included).

      The low current consumption of Nano Energy power and reset ICs minimize losses and maximize battery life, while the battery charger ICs provide optimal charging of a wide variety of rechargeable batteries. Examples of applications for this efficient battery management system include wearables and industrial IoT devices such as smart cards, electronic shelf labels, smart meters, and alarms.
