ROHM Develops Small High-Accuracy Air Pressure Sensor IC "BM1390GLV" With IPX8 Waterproof Rating

     ROHM has developed a small high-precision air pressure sensor IC "BM1390GLV(-Z)" with a waterproof rating of IPX8*1 for white goods, industrial equipment, and small IoT devices. Ideal for applications requiring water resistance such as white goods and industrial equipment

     In applications such as smartphones and wearables, barometric pressure sensors have been widely used to obtain altitude difference data for indoor navigation and activity trackers. In recent years, with the expansion of its application range, there is an increasing demand for air pressure sensors with excellent waterproof performance, smaller size, and better resistance to external changes. Against this background, ROHM has developed a new small air pressure sensor, which has IPX8 water resistance and is highly resistant to temperature changes and stress.

     The new product combines the MEMS*2 and control circuit technology accumulated over the years with ROHM's own waterproof technology. Although the package size is only 2.0mm × 2.0mm × 1.0mm, it has achieved IPX8 waterproof performance. In addition, excellent temperature characteristics are achieved using ROHM's own temperature calibration function. Not only that, the use of ceramic packages suppresses fluctuations in characteristics caused by stress during mounting on a circuit board. These features make it possible to achieve high-accuracy air pressure detection even in applications where it is difficult for conventional products to meet waterproof performance requirements, and in environments with large temperature changes.
