Quanergy showcases the industry's first OPA-based 100-meter range solid-state Lidar

Quanergy Systems is a leading provider of optical phased array (OPA) -based solid-state LiDAR (LiDAR) sensors and intelligent 3D solutions for the automotive and Internet of Things sectors. The company announced the complete success of its S3 Series Lidar driving demonstration, a true solid-state lidar sensor that uses industry-first OPA technology and scalable CMOS silicon manufacturing process to enable cost-effective production for the mass market.

The demonstration was conducted in partnership with Zero Electric Vehicle Inc. (ZEV), an innovative sustainable energy company that provides a fleet electrification and electric vehicle platform for companies looking to make the most of their existing assets in the transition to electric mobility.

For this test, a solid-state lidar test bed with a single-scan beam was mounted on a car, and additional cameras were installed to facilitate visual observation. The test vehicle follows the target vehicle, driving different distances - from close range to 100 meters - in bright sunlight, and staying safe at all times. During the test, a target with a reflectivity of 10% was selected to simulate extremely difficult objects to detect.

Quanergy's S3 Series LiDAR sensors are designed to meet the most stringent automotive target detection and collision avoidance requirements. The sensor's unique electron beam steering system has no moving parts and is shock and vibration resistant. Offering more than 100,000 hours of mean Time between failures (MTBF), the S3 series aims to be mass-market production at a price of $500.
