Power Integrations Introduces SCALE-iFlex Single Plug-and-Play Gate Driver for 'New Dual' Module

     Power Integrations, a well-known company in the field of gate driver technology for medium and high voltage inverter applications, has introduced the SCALE-iFlex Single gate driver for the popular "new dual channel" 100mm x 140mm IGBT module. This compact new driver supports modules with withstand voltages up to 3.3kV and is available now for customer design-in. The SCALE-iFlex Single gate driver is ideal for light rail, renewable energy generation, and other high reliability applications that require a compact, rugged drive solution.

     Thorsten Schmidt, Product Marketing Manager at Power Integrations, said: "The SCALE-iFlex Single gate driver has been specially designed in a form factor to fit perfectly with the latest standard IGBT power modules including Mitsubishi LV100/HV100, Infineon xHP2 and xHP3, ABB LinPak, Hitachi nHPD² and others.”

     The SCALE-iFlex Single gate driver utilizes Power Integrations' SCALE-2™ ASIC technology, which offers a significant reduction in component count compared to legacy products. The ASIC also provides Advanced Active Clamp (AAC) overvoltage protection during normal operation, which is a great improvement over simple soft turn-off, adding additional protection in the event of a short circuit during turn-on. This product is treated with conformal paint to provide reinforced insulation. Isolation housings ensure safe insulation between modules when modules are mounted side by side. These devices are pre-qualified to rail standards IEC 61373 - Class 1B (shock and vibration), IEC 61000-4-x (EMC testing) and IEC 60068-2-x (a range of environmental tests). In addition, burn-in testing options are also available.

     The new gate drivers have a peak output current rating of 20A per channel at 85°C ambient temperature and no air cooling, and a power rating of 1.5W MAG per channel (module adapted gate driver). Higher power levels can be achieved when air cooling is provided or at lower ambient temperatures. In addition, both electrical and optical interfaces are available.
