PI Introduces New InnoSwitch3-TN IC that Reduces Appliance Power Consumption by 75%

     Power Integrations, a well-known company deep in the field of high-voltage integrated circuit high-efficiency power conversion, has launched the highly integrated InnoSwitch3-TN series of constant voltage/constant current offline flyback switch ICs. The InnoSwitch3-TN IC is housed in a safety-compliant thin MinSOP™-16A package and integrates a 725V primary MOSFET, a feedback mechanism for primary-to-secondary isolation, synchronous rectification and secondary-side control to simplify power supply design and is ideal for power supply up to 21W. Appliance and industrial auxiliary power applications.

     Silvestro Fimiani, senior product promotion manager at Power Integrations, said: "Our new InnoSwitch3-TN device supports high output current applications required by smart connected appliances with efficiencies up to 90%. Traditional solutions such as buck converters are typically less efficient than 60%. The InnoSwitch3-TN IC integrates all feedback components while supporting isolated, non-isolated, single output and multiple output designs for the most compact and flexible auxiliary power solution.”

     The advanced InnoSwitch3-TN flyback controller provides constant efficiency over the entire load range and consumes less than 5mW at no load. The flexibility offered by FluxLink™ communication technology means that positive and negative outputs can be easily implemented. InnoSwitch3-TN IC can be used for one of the power supplies with 5V output, can output two positive voltages, or have both positive and negative voltage outputs without any external feedback components. The safety-compliant FluxLink technology also ensures reliable synchronous rectification and precise constant voltage and constant current output. The low forward voltage drop of the SR MOSFET ensures excellent cross regulation performance. The new devices have comprehensive safety features, including output overcurrent and overtemperature protection. Since the InnoSwitch3-TN is packaged in a thin MinSOP package and requires very few peripheral components for the entire power supply, the InnoSwitch3-TN is an ideal choice for compact power supply solutions.
