Nexperia's world's smallest SD card level translator reduces pin size by 40%

     Nexperia, a high-volume production specialist in the field of basic semiconductor components, announces the NXS0506UP, the world's smallest Secure Digital (SD) card level shifter IC. This SD 3.0 compliant bidirectional dual voltage level translator is housed in a 16-bump wafer-level chip-scale package with 1.45mm x 1.45mm x 0.45mm pins and 0.35mm pitch, which is larger than previous The device with 20 bumps is 40% smaller.

     The NXS0506UP integrates automatic direction control, EMI filter features and IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection features. The device operates at clock frequencies up to 208 MHz and data rates up to 104 Mbps.

      Vikram Singh Parihar, Senior Product Manager at Nexperia, said: "While the NXS0506 was previously dedicated to consumer devices such as smartphones, laptops, gamepads, cameras and wireless access points, we are also seeing adoption of the device in home medical devices and automotive systems. "The NXS0506 is the industry's smallest SD 3.0 card level shifter that supports ultra-high-speed SDR104 mode, helping consumers experience the faster data rates offered by SD 3.0 memory card solutions."

     The new NXS0506UP SD card level translator has built-in pull-up and pull-down resistors to reduce BOM cost. Because the DATA channel and CMD channel can be used interchangeably without affecting functionality, the device can be directly connected to the latest host CPU/SOC ASIC for ease of use.
