New XGS CMOS Image Sensor Enhances ON Semiconductor's High-Resolution Industrial Imaging Lineup

     ON Semiconductor expands the high-performance, low-noise XGS family of image sensors that deliver 12-bit image quality at high frame rates. The new products include the XGS 45000, XGS 30000 and XGS 20000, which provide up to 45 megapixels of imaging detail for resolution-demanding applications and 60 frames per second (fps) in 8K video mode. Additionally, the new XGS 5000 is designed with low power performance and state-of-the-art image quality for a compact 29 x 29 mm2 camera design. In addition to the XGS 5000, ON Semiconductor's 3- and 2-megapixel variants have also been released for production.

     All XGS devices feature a 3.2 µm pixel size to provide high resolution, while the advanced pixel design ensures low noise performance and image quality, which is critical for challenging Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as machine vision and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) critical. Global shutter ensures no motion artifacts when photographing moving objects. To simplify and speed time-to-market, XGS devices provide a common architecture that enables a single camera design to easily develop multiple resolutions.

Teledyne Imaging, one of the world leaders in digital imaging technology, recently announced the new GenieTM Nano-5G M/C8100 area scan camera, based on the XGS 45000 design.

The SP-45000M-CXP4 offers 44.7-megapixel black-and-white resolution at 52 frames per second, leading the market, and supports full 8K resolution at over 60 frames per second.      Basler, the world's leading manufacturer of digital cameras for industrial and retail applications, medical equipment and transportation systems, also recently announced that they will integrate XGS sensors into their boost platform based on the latest CoaXPress 2.0 machine vision standard.      ON Semiconductor offers a wide range of development tools to support the design process. The demo kit includes a hardware platform with DevSuite software for full sensor evaluation with all register settings. The X-Celerator platform includes common FPGA code and provides direct interfaces to standard FPGA development environments such as Xilinx and Altera. Supporting XGS devices up to 16 megapixels, the X-Cube platform is a complete 29 x 29 mm2 reference design that provides HiSPi to MIPI conversion via Lattice FPGA, and image capture, processing and analysis using DevSuite software.
