NXP announced that its automotive battery monitoring chip DNB1168 has passed ISO 26262:2018 ASIL-D certification, which can help new energy vehicle manufacturers build safer and more efficient battery management systems.      DNB1168 is a single-cell battery management chip that can provide electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests for individual cells or parallel battery packs. And its integrated chip temperature sensor can be used to test the temperature of the cell, without the need to use an additional thermocouple NTC for temperature monitoring. In addition, the DNB1168 can directly monitor the internal cell resistance through dedicated circuit technology, thus providing a new method for evaluating the temperature inside the cell.

     For example, for the thermal runaway problem that is difficult to control for power batteries, the DNB1168 solution uses the AC impedance monitoring function to achieve rapid thermal runaway detection. Compared with the traditional NTC (thermocouple) method, the AC impedance monitoring function can provide a second-level response capability, which greatly improves the safety threshold of the power battery and prolongs the battery life. Based on strong technical support, DNB1168 can provide the battery management system with in-depth information on the internal state of the battery, bringing the ultimate battery safety, performance and value.
